THE INAUGURAL SHARIAH INVESTING FAIR 2017 STARTS TODAY
Kuala Lumpur, 25 November 2017 – Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or “the Exchange”) today hosted its inaugural Shariah Investing Fair 2017. Themed “Jom Labur Shariah”, the fair is a platform for the retail public to explore, gain knowledge and information on stock market investment, and various kinds of shariah-compliant capital market investment products. Officiated by Minister of Finance II, Yang Berhormat Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani, the fair will be held for two days, on 25 and 26 November at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
Shariah Investing Fair 2017 is showcasing over 30 exhibition booths from Islamic Participating Organisations (“POs”), Islamic fund management companies, Islamic financial institutions, regulators and relevant government agencies. Among sponsors and exhibitors at the Shariah Investing Fair include BIMB Holdings Berhad, Bina Darulaman Berhad, Affin Islamic Bank Berhad, CCM Duopharma Biotech Berhad, CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad, DRB Hicom Berhad, Eastspring Investments Berhad, Hwa Tai Industries Berhad, Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad, PMB Investment Berhad, Securities Commission Berhad and ValueCAP Sdn Bhd. In addition, 22 investment seminars will be conducted by prominent speakers who will share their knowledge and investment tips on Shariah investing.
“The Shariah Investing Fair is Bursa Malaysia’s commitment towards increasing awareness, knowledge sharing and education to the investing community and retail public. The fair aims to serve as a platform of information sharing and bridge the knowledge gap between Islamic Capital Market investment service providers and individual investors.” said Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia.
“There has been a growing concern on the low financial literacy level of Malaysians, with many reported falling for investment scams in the hope of increasing their wealth. As an exchange, it is our role and indeed, crucial, for us to educate these potential investors and raise the awareness of the benefits of investing in stocks. Our initiatives have constantly involved working and collaborating with industry partners. Our ‘What’s Your Goal’ campaign launched earlier this week is an example of such initiative where we are collaborating with our broker partners to conduct over 80 complimentary investor seminars and workshops across the country.” Datuk Seri Tajuddin added.
In conjunction with the opening of Shariah Investing Fair 2017, Bursa Malaysia has also launched the “Shariah Trader Challenge”, a stock trading competition focused solely on trading of Shariah-compliant stocks on Bursa Malaysia-i. This challenge was created to raise awareness of Shariah-compliant investment instruments on Bursa Malaysia-i. Registered participants will receive a virtual investment capital and given the opportunity to demonstrate their investment skills in a real-time stock trading environment. Offering cash prizes, entry into this competition is free. To register for the competition, participants can head over to www.bursamarketplace.com.
Bursa Malaysia was also awarded a certificate of merit by the Malaysian Book of Records today certifying Bursa Malaysia-i as “The First End-to-End Shariah Investing Platform”, an acknowledgement of the hard work from the Islamic Capital Market team of Bursa Malaysia and all the Islamic POs who have been instrumental in making Bursa Malaysia-i, a reality.
