Daily Market Commentary (Securities)

10 December 2018

The FBM KLCI index lost 17.23 points or 1.03% on Monday. The Finance Index fell 0.91% to 17275.91 points, the Properties Index dropped 1.25% to 899.21 points and the Plantation Index down 2.24% to 6682.23 points. The market traded within a range of 11.86 points between an intra-day high of 1674.67 and a low of 1662.81 during the session.

Actively traded stocks include TATGIAP-PR, PRESBHD, SANICHI, ARMADA, MYEG, HSI-C3X, HUBLINE, SUMATEC, HIBISCS and PERMAJU. Trading volume increased to 2654.38 mil shares worth RM1374.08 mil as compared to Friday’s 1913.87 mil shares worth RM1506.84 mil.

Leading Movers were PETDAG (+50 sen to RM25.64), IHH (+4 sen to RM5.40), NESTLE (+40 sen to RM144.90), PPB (+0 sen to RM17.00) and PMETAL (+0 sen to RM4.83). Lagging Movers were SIMEPLT (-21 sen to RM4.48), GENTING (-21 sen to RM6.05), HLFG (-50 sen to RM18.86), CIMB (-13 sen to RM5.65) and DIGI (-10 sen to RM4.39). Market breadth was negative with 194 gainers as compared to 612 losers.

The KLCI started the week on a negative note, closing lower at 1663.31 points amid overnight retreat in US markets. The performance of our local benchmark was in line with most of our regional peers following worries over slowing economic growth and trade tensions between US and China.
