As part of our continuous efforts to help the Johor flood victims, Bursa Malaysia and UPB-MyTeam organised a fund raising football match on the 22nd February 2007 at the KLFA Stadium.

Players for the Bursa Bulls (Bursa Malaysia's team) included Omar Merican (COO), soccer coaches and local legends Dollah Salleh, K Rajagopal and Mat Zan Mat Aris, as well as corporate figures who had donated to play.

For UPB-MyTeam, the players  included Khairy Jamaluddin (UPB-MyTeam President), Jason Lo (Deputy President) and AirAsia CEO Datuk Tony Fernandes.

After a tough battle the score was tied 0-0 at full-time. However in the penalty shootout UPB-MyTeam eventually won 4-3.

The charity match raised RM100,000 and the money will be used to help rehabilitate the flood victims in Johor.

The Johor Floods

The floods have receded in Johor but hundreds of displaced families are still struggling to get back to life as usual.

They have moved from relief centres into their homes, many of which had been submerged by flood waters, to rooftop for more than 3 days. They face complete loss of all belongings and houses that are not only damaged, but some of which have been completely broken down.

Bursa Malaysia has adopted 50 badly hit families in Kampung Batu Badak, Segamat and is helping them rehabilitate and get back to normal living. Bursa Malaysia Volunteers have visited these homes to assess their needs and have to date delivered, in kind, basic needs such as mattresses, pillows, blankets, towels, gas stoves, hygiene goods and food supplies. Bursa Malaysia is also looking at repairing their homes.

Bursa will be delivering more cash and kind to these families in 2 more visits to the village, till the families are settled.
