BURSA MALAYSIA RECOGNISED AT REGIONAL 2015 ASEAN CORPORATE GOVERNANCE CONFERENCE & AWARDS

EXCHANGE BAGS THREE AWARDS FOR A TRANSPARENT CAPITAL MARKETPLACE

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 NOVEMBER 2015 – Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia”) today announced that it was awarded “ASEAN Top 50 Public-Listed Company”, “ASEAN Top 5 Public-Listed Company” and “Top 3 Domestic Public-Listed Company Malaysia” at the inaugural ASEAN Corporate Governance Conference Awards which was held in Manila, the Philippines on November 14, 2015.

ASEAN Top 50 PLC Malaysian awardees – Bursa Malaysia Berhad, CIMB Group Holding Berhad, IJM Corporation Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad, RHB Capital Bhd and Telekom Malaysia Berhad (in no particular order)

Dato’ Tajuddin Atan, the Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia said, “Bursa Malaysia is proud to receive three prestigious regional awards from the Institute of Corporate Directors, in the areas of corporate governance. I am very proud that 5 other Malaysian PLCs are in the ASEAN Top 50 PLC list. Together these awards are the fruition of our commitment and 10-year advocacy for sustainable practices and high corporate governance standards; to be a sustainable regional Exchange and exemplary PLC. As an Exchange, it is our responsibility to drive the integration of sustainability in the marketplace and we have dedicated our efforts to building the needed infrastructure through frameworks and tools which promote and facilitate the achievement of this goal by our more than 900 public-listed companies. The embedding of sustainability strategies and ethical business practices will future-proof our PLCs and our marketplace in an increasingly connected and competitive global economy. Teresita J. Herbosa, Chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission, Philippines and Azryta Abdul Aziz, Deputy General Manager and Head, Corporate Governance, Securities Commission, Malaysia.

Organised by the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum, the winning companies from across ASEAN were recognised for having in place a corporate governance framework that better serves the company, its investors and its people. Winning scores were based on the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard which covered specifications including rights of shareholders, equitable treatment, disclosure and transparency, bonuses and penalties and board responsibilities.
