MORE THAN 1,300 RUNNERS TAKE TO THE STREETS FOR INAUGURAL BURSA BULL CHARGE

Capital Market Bulls Charged Through the Streets of Kuala Lumpur Running for Others

Bursa Bull Charge, which carries the tagline “The Day The Marketplace Runs For Others”, drew more than 1,300 runners from over 130 organisations comprising Public Listed Companies, Brokers, Investment Banks, Ministries, Regulators, Media and even Young Executives who charged through Kuala Lumpur’s Capital Market Trail, a route throughout the Central Business District.

Dato’ Tajuddin Atan, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia said, “Bursa Bull Charge extends beyond just raising money for charity. It is another effort by Bursa Malaysia to drive capital market collaboration with the aim to raise the bar on sustainability and inclusiveness amongst the people in our community. I am heartened by the strong support by our Sponsors, leadership from the industry and all other runners from across all segments of the industry. We have put in a lot of effort to make this an enjoyable and rewarding event for everyone and we intend to make it the key capital market event that all Malaysians look forward to participate and be involved.”

Funds raised will go towards supporting eight beneficiaries - Persatuan Kebajikan An-Najjah Malaysia, Sekolah Latihan Wanita Ipoh, Persatuan Rumah Amal Sabah (formerly Sabah Cheshire Home), My Performing Arts Agency, CADS Enhancement Centre, Kelab Belia Kalsom, Women International Network (WIN) and Borneo Eco Film Festival (BEFF).

John Chong, Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Investment Bank said, “The spirit of the Bursa Bull Charge resonates with Maybank Investment Bank’s corporate philosophy which incorporates the idea of inclusive development to bring businesses and communities together. This is very much in line with our Trade & Give initiative which aims to unveil economic opportunities for all levels of society and provide them with access not only to funds but also knowledge, ideas, technology and new markets.”

SapuraKencana Petroleum President and Group Chief Executive Officer, YBhg Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin said, “We have always believed in fostering entrepreneurship which has been a key factor in driving SapuraKencana's success. As the funds raised from the Bursa Bull Charge will go toward nurturing and cultivating entrepreneurship through the 8 beneficiaries, we are happy to lend our support for this worthy cause.”

Lee, Chief Executive Officer of YTL Communications said, “At Yes, we believe in the transformative power of the Internet to improve the lives of people in Malaysia and drive positive change in the community. Along that line, we are happy to support Bursa Malaysia’s efforts to drive positive change in the communities we live in and to foster an inclusive capital market to create equal opportunities for all.”

The highlight of the event was the 1.5km CEO’s Run where corporate CEOs joined Dato’ Tajuddin in a friendly competition to raise funds.

Bursa Bull Charge was a hive of activity as enthusiastic supporters cheered on their CEOs as well as their colleagues for the Corporate Relay Race and the 5km Corporate Challenge. It was a fun-filled galore that included a host of other activities including Selfies Contest, Media Blog Contest and entertainment staged by My Performing Arts. The public was also invited to be part of the charity fun run and stood the chance to win the 50 Bursa Bull Charge “mystery” gifts presented for the most awesome captioned photograph tweeted with #bullcharge.

Bursa Malaysia and the sponsor partners absorbed all costs incurred in organising the run. Maybank Investment Bank is the main sponsor of Bursa Bull Charge. The other key sponsors are SapuraKencana Petroleum and YTL Communications while the Husky sponsors included IJM Corporation Berhad, Protasco Berhad, PESTECH Sdn Bhd and Berjaya Corporation.
