Daily Market Commentary (Securities)

19 July 2018

The FBM KLCI index gained 6.17 points or 0.35% on Thursday. The Finance Index increased 0.58% to 17350.77 points, the Properties Index up 1.69% to 1051.59 points and the Plantation Index rose 0.00% to 7493.19 points. The market traded within a range of 9.97 points between an intra-day high of 1764.15 and a low of 1754.18 during the session.

Actively traded stocks include EKOVEST, IWCITY, MYEG, MRCB, PWORTH, REVENUE, SAPNRG, MALTON, HSI-H4I and PHB. Trading volume increased to 3492.39 mil shares worth RM3026.01 mil as compared to Wednesday’s 2631.93 mil shares worth RM2175.31 mil.

Leading Movers were PMETAL (+16 sen to RM4.31), MAYBANK (+21 sen to RM9.81), MAHB (+19 sen to RM9.09), SIME (+3 sen to RM2.42) and DIALOG (+3 sen to RM3.30). Lagging Movers were HLBANK (-38 sen to RM18.50), KLCC (-11 sen to RM7.55), SIMEPLT (-6 sen to RM5.19), HARTA (-7 sen to RM6.10) and TM (-3 sen to RM3.90). Market breadth was positive with 640 gainers as compared to 323 losers.

The KLCI continued its gains and closed higher at 1759.24 points despite overnight mixed performance in US market. The performance of our local bourse was lifted by buying interest in heavy weight counters such as Press Metal, Maybank and Malaysia Airports.
