Daily Market Commentary (Securities)

19 February 2018

The FBM KLCI index gained 19.04 points or 1.04% on Monday. The Finance Index increased 1.06% to 17780.22 points, the Properties Index up 1.58% to 1199.94 points and the Plantation Index rose 0.64% to 8048.11 points. The market traded within a range of 16.45 points between an intra-day high of 1858.23 and a low of 1841.78 during the session.

Actively traded stocks include PUC, HIBISCS-CC, HUAAN, SAPNRG, HIBISCS, HENGYUAN-CO, IRIS, UCREST, PDZ-WB and SUMATEC. Trading volume increased to 2356.06 mil shares worth RM1886.91 mil as compared to Thursday’s 1113.28 mil shares worth RM1071.79 mil.

Leading Movers were PETGAS (+116 sen to RM18.66), HLFG (+70 sen to RM18.96), YTL (+5 sen to RM1.47), AMMB (+13 sen to RM4.64) and IHH (+15 sen to RM6.19). Lagging Movers were PETCHEM (-0 sen to RM8.10), KLCC (-0 sen to RM7.90), HAPSENG (-2 sen to RM9.16), TENAGA (-4 sen to RM15.74) and MAYBANK (-4 sen to RM10.14). Market breadth was positive with 824 gainers as compared to 193 losers.

The KLCI closed higher on the first trading after the long weekend at 1857.32 points despite overnight mixed performance in US. The performance of our local index was mainly lifted by buying interest in heavy weight counters such as Petronas Gas, Hong Leong Financial Group, and YTL Corp.
