Daily Market Commentary (Securities)

23 April 2018

The FBM KLCI index lost 7.39 points or 0.39% on Monday. The Finance Index fell 0.42% to 18409.98 points, the Properties Index dropped 1.12% to 1067.51 points and the Plantation Index rose 0.12% to 8003.6 points. The market traded within a range of 13.22 points between an intra-day high of 1891.59 and a low of 1878.37 during the session.

Actively traded stocks include BORNOIL, SAPNRG, UMWOG, HIS-C3B, NEXGRAM, HUAAN, SUMATEC, PUC, HIS-H2Z and RSENA-WA. Trading volume decreased to 1941.92 mil shares worth RM1663.25 mil as compared to Friday’s 2435.20 mil shares worth RM2161.74 mil.

Leading Movers were SIMEPLT (+5 sen to RM5.57), PPB (+8 sen to RM19.10), PBBANK (+10 sen to RM24.30), MAXIS (+2 sen to RM5.89) and KLK (+2 sen to RM25.52). Lagging Movers were TM (-13 sen to RM5.37), PETGAS (-38 sen to RM18.22), KLCC (-15 sen to RM7.20), GENM (-9 sen to RM5.08) and MISC (-12 sen to RM7.08). Market breadth was negative with 216 gainers as compared to 711 losers.

The KLCI closed lower at 1880.36 points amid overnight losses in US market. The performance of our local bourse was bogged down by selling interest in heavy weight counters such as TM, Petronas Gas and KLCCP Stapled Group.
